Mr Chips was established in 1982 and has been under the same management ever since. `We have gone from being just a traditional fish and chip shop to acquiring these expanded premises and becoming a licensed restaurant as well.
In 2003 the shop suffered serious flood damage, however after an extensive facelift it was re-born as a firm favourite of locals and visitors from all corners of the world. Since then we have become renowned for our excellent standards, which have been recognised by the Sunday Telegraph and The Mail on Sunday. This culminated in us winning ‘The Whitby Gazette Fish and Chip shop of the Year 2005-06, and regaining the coveted title in 2008-2009.
For the past two years our efforts have been rewarded with us being one of the top five finalists for the ‘National Fish and Chip shop of the year 2006-07 and again in 2007-08. The only business within a fifty mile radius of Whitby to achieve this accolade.
Under the guidance of Head Chef Dean Jeffrey, our small team of chefs, Nick Breckon, Jane Mclean and Wayne Gildroy, create exciting, contemporary and mouth watering dishes, as well as our excellent traditional fish and chips, and are already causing a stir in the town.
